It is so easy to feel welcome in Vence the small town, just a little way up in the mountains, where it lives it´s very own Provençal life only a few km. from the jet-set styles and activities in Antibes, Nice, Cannes and Monaco

With around 14,000 inhabitants, Vence is big enough to offer street life, lots of activities, many galleries, fantastic restaurants, lots of cafés and bars open all year round.

Every week there is market trading, and an antiques market offering Provençal items and lots of other bits of bric a brac.

VINEYARDS - WINERIES

In 1990, the municipality awarded a lease on land in the commune reserved for winegrowing to an association. Responsible for running the vineyards, the association planted Mourvèdre, Braquet and Clairette grape varieties. By 1998, a good twenty producers had gained reputations for the quality of their wine and their care of the land, vines and harvest, not to mention the wine making and ageing processes and the upkeep of their barrels.

Grape varieties for white wine:

  • Clairette, Ugni, Rolle and Clairette de Vence (also called Pissoua)

Grape varieties for red wine:

  • Cinsault, Carignan, Alicante, Grenache, Braquet, Mourvaison, Grassenc.

The most recent varieties :

  • Mourvèdre and Folle Noire (a Mediterranean grape)

Non-classified varieties:

  • Ampelographical research is currently underway to classify two century-old varieties of black grape.

Where to find them:

La Petite Cave de Saint-Paul

A sommelier welcomes you in an authentic cellar from the XIVth century and propose you the best selection of the nicer Provence wines and the wines from the village too. Groups welcome for tastings on the theme of Provence.
